The mission of STI International - Semantic Technology Institute International - is to establish Semantics as a core pillar of modern computer engineering. It is supposed to be the leading international think tank in this field. STI is organized as a collaborative association of interested scientific, industrial and governmental parties that share a common vision. STI actively takes the lead in developing new business models and in improving the way people and businesses communicate and interact.

STI is supported by scientific, industrial and governmental parties of the world wide Semantic Web and Service community. STI is an initiative of the European Semantic Systems Initiative (ESSI), the European FP6 Project Knowledge Web and DERI International. STI will set up its own research infrastructure and will implement public and internal services that support the individual partner organizations in their research collaboration, standardization, dissemination and exploitation activities.

STI was founded in April 2007 and is established as a research association within Austria.
